Safari Overview
Safari is the greatest classroom on Earth. This 6-day family trip is planned around children: shorter driving days, lodges with pools, family suites and guides who love turning kids into junior rangers. Parents get the Big Five. Kids get memories for life.
How the Trip Flows
Family safaris fail when the days are too long, so this one is built short and sweet. No driving leg exceeds a morning, and every afternoon offers a pool. The trip alternates: park day, rest day, park day. Kids get wildlife checklists and a junior-ranger mission from the guide; parents get the Big Five without the backseat meltdown. Two bases — Baghayo in Karatu and Tamba in the Serengeti — are used twice each, so packing is minimal. The itinerary tab shows exactly how each day balances safari and downtime.
Where You Will Stay
Families stay at Sangaiwe Tented Lodge by Tarangire, Baghayo Garden Suites with its large family suites, and Tamba Tented Camp, home of the Serengeti’s best swimming pool.
Safari Highlights
Elephants close enough to count their wrinkles. A pool overlooking the Serengeti plains. A coffee farm tour with tastings for the grown-ups. The crater’s lions as the grand finale.
Best Time to Go
School holidays in June to August match the dry season perfectly. December holidays add the calving herds in the south.
Who This Safari Suits
Families with children of any age. We adjust the pace, the rooms and the meals to fit your crew.
Good to Know
We plan family safaris differently. Drives are split into short blocks with pool breaks between. Guides carry wildlife checklists and games for the kids. Family suites and connecting rooms are booked wherever available, and child rates apply at most lodges. All park fees and meals are included. Car seats are available on request. Most parents say the trip works best with children aged six and up, but we happily plan for younger ones too.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire
A two-hour drive brings the family to Tarangire's gate. Enjoy an afternoon game drive counting elephants, then an early camp-style dinner.
Day 2: Tarangire Morning, Karatu Afternoon
Morning game drive while the animals are active, then a relaxed drive to Karatu. The afternoon belongs to the pool and the gardens.
Day 3: Karatu to the Serengeti
Drive through the Ngorongoro highlands with wildlife-spotting games along the way and a stop at the crater rim viewpoint. Reach camp in time for a swim before dinner.
Day 4: Serengeti — Split-Day Safari
A morning game drive among the big cats, pool time and rest at midday, then a shorter afternoon drive. The junior-ranger checklist fills up fast.
Day 5: Serengeti to Karatu
One more morning on the plains, then return to Karatu for a farm tour — kids love the animals and the garden, parents love the coffee.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
The grand finale: a morning tour of the crater floor, with lions, hippos and maybe a rhino for the checklist. Picnic lunch, then the drive back to Arusha.
