Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a luxury safari in Tanzania raises many questions. Here are answers to the most common ones to help you prepare with confidence.

Booking & Planning

Absolutely! We specialize in creating bespoke safari experiences tailored to your interests, budget, and timeframe. Whether you want to focus on specific wildlife, combine beach and bush, or add cultural experiences, we’ll design the perfect itinerary for you.

Yes, we offer discounts for groups of 6 or more travelers. Family groups and special interest groups can also benefit from customized pricing. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your group size and requirements.

For the best experience and availability, we recommend booking your safari 6-12 months in advance, especially if you’re planning to travel during peak season (June-October). For travel during the Great Migration (July-September), booking 12-18 months ahead is advisable.

Our packages typically include accommodation, all meals during safari, professional English-speaking guide, park entrance fees, game drives in 4×4 vehicles, airport transfers, and bottled water. International flights, travel insurance, visas, and personal expenses are usually excluded.

Our cancellation policy varies depending on how far in advance you cancel. Generally, cancellations made 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus administrative fees. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance to protect your investment.

Travel & Logistics

Most visitors require a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain a visa on arrival at major airports or apply online in advance through the Tanzania Immigration Department’s e-visa portal (immigration.go.tz). Tourist visas cost $50-100 USD depending on nationality.

Transportation between parks is typically by light aircraft or 4×4 vehicle, depending on distances. Game drives are conducted in custom-built safari vehicles with pop-up roofs for optimal wildlife viewing. All transfers are included in your package.

Tanzania is considered one of the safest countries in East Africa for tourists. However, we recommend taking standard precautions: use hotel safes, avoid walking alone at night in cities, and follow your guide’s instructions during wildlife encounters. All our guides are trained in first aid and safety protocols.

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige), comfortable walking shoes, a warm fleece for cool mornings, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and camera. Soft-sided bags are preferred as space in vehicles and aircraft is limited.

Yellow Fever vaccination is required if traveling from endemic areas. We recommend consulting a travel health specialist 4-6 weeks before departure about Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Malaria prophylaxis. Malaria prevention medication is essential for all travelers.

Wildlife & Experience

Night drives are permitted in private concessions and some conservancies, offering opportunities to see nocturnal animals like leopards, hyenas, and bush babies. National parks in Tanzania don’t permit night drives, but some lodges on private land do offer this experience.

Absolutely! Popular combinations include Zanzibar beach holidays, Mount Kilimanjaro treks, cultural visits to Maasai villages, hot air balloon safaris over the Serengeti, and visits to chimpanzee reserves. We can create a comprehensive East Africa itinerary for you.

Yes, walking safaris are available in select areas and offer an intimate way to experience the bush. These are led by armed rangers and provide insights into tracking, flora, and smaller wildlife often missed from vehicles. Walking safaris have age and fitness requirements.

Tanzania is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) plus cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, crocodile, and over 500 bird species. Wildlife sightings vary by season and location, but Tanzania’s parks offer some of the best game viewing in Africa.

The Great Migration is a year-round event that moves across the Serengeti ecosystem. River crossings (July-September) are the most dramatic, while calving season (January-February) in the southern Serengeti offers incredible predator action. We can help you choose the best time based on your interests.

Accommodation

Many lodges offer family rooms, interconnecting tents, or private villas suitable for families. Some properties have age restrictions due to safety concerns, so we’ll help you choose family-friendly options that suit your children’s ages.

All our partner lodges and camps prioritize guest safety with trained staff, 24-hour security, and proper protocols for wildlife encounters. Tented camps are designed to be wildlife-proof, and staff escort guests after dark. You’re always safe and looked after.

Yes, all our partner lodges can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements with advance notice. Please inform us of any allergies or preferences when booking so we can ensure all properties are prepared.

Most lodges and camps have electricity (often solar-powered) for charging devices and lighting. WiFi is available at many properties, though it may be limited in very remote areas. We recommend disconnecting and enjoying the wilderness experience!

We offer a range from luxury lodges and tented camps to mobile camps that follow the migration. Luxury options feature en-suite bathrooms, fine dining, and spa facilities. Tented camps offer an authentic bush experience while maintaining comfort and safety.
