Thorn Tree Camp is the Serengeti tented experience in its classic form. The camp sits in the Seronera Valley of the central Serengeti. It is about fifteen minutes from the Seronera airstrip and visitor center. Views reach across to Banagi Hill and the open plains.

Fifteen Spacious Tents

The fifteen tents are roomy and well designed. Each one has a screened sitting area, twin or queen beds and a private bathroom. There is a two-bedroom family suite with a shared common area. Another tent has a second bedroom, great for children. The whole camp runs on solar power, including the hot water.

Classic Camp Atmosphere

Nothing beats sleeping under canvas in the Serengeti. The sounds of the African night carry through the camp. Meals are hot, fresh and full of traditional Tanzanian hospitality. Evenings end by the fire under brilliant stars.

The Best Big-Cat Country

The Seronera Valley has water all year. This makes it one of the most reliable big-cat areas in Africa. Lion and leopard sightings happen almost daily. Elephants, cheetahs, hippos and crocodiles live close by. Game drives start minutes from your tent.

Activities and Access

Game drives, bush walks and balloon safaris can all be arranged. The Seronera Visitor Centre offers a self-guided walk on Serengeti history. The camp is open all year, in every season. Best Time to Visit

Thorn Tree is open all year, and the Seronera Valley never runs out of big cats. The migration moves through the central Serengeti in roughly April to June and November. Balloon safaris fly year-round from nearby launch sites. Two or three nights works well. The camp suits classic-safari lovers, families and travelers who want the real canvas experience close to the airstrip.
