Sangaiwe Mbuyu Tented Lodge
Sangaiwe area, near Tarangire National Park
Sangaiwe Mbuyu is the sister lodge to Sangaiwe Tented Lodge. “Mbuyu” means baobab in Swahili, and the name fits. Giant ancient baobabs rise over the camp near the Sangaiwe gate of Tarangire National Park. The trees give the lodge a strong sense of place.
Stylish Tents under the Baobabs
The permanent tents blend canvas charm with solid comfort. Each one has a private bathroom with a hot shower, a good bed under a net, and a shaded deck facing the bush. The tents are well spaced for privacy. Wildlife often wanders past, from giraffes to elephants.
Dining and Camp Life
The dining area, bar and lounge follow the rhythm of safari life. Early breakfasts come before the morning drive. Long lunches and afternoon rests fill the middle of the day. Fireside evenings end with stories and cold drinks under the stars.
Activities Beyond the Vehicle
The Burunge area around the lodge allows walking safaris and night drives. Local guides share their deep knowledge of plants, tracks and birds. These extras add real depth to a Tarangire safari. Cultural visits to nearby villages can also be arranged.
Location and Access
Tarangire’s wildlife circuits begin minutes away through the Sangaiwe gate. Elephants, lions and baobab valleys are all close at hand. Lake Manyara and Lake Burunge are within easy reach. Arusha is about two hours by road. Sangaiwe Mbuyu is a great-value gateway to the Tarangire ecosystem, with the baobabs as a bonus.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season, June to October, delivers the classic Tarangire show of elephants and baobabs. The green season is calm, fresh and great value. The giant baobabs photograph beautifully in every month. Stay two nights to mix park drives with walks on the community land. Sangaiwe Mbuyu suits couples, photographers and anyone charmed by the idea of sleeping beneath thousand-year-old trees.
