Mara Mara Tented Lodge
Northern Serengeti (Mara region)
Mara Mara Tented Lodge sits in the remote northern Serengeti, known as the Mara region. Rolling hills, rocky kopjes and riverside forest make this one of the park’s most beautiful areas. Far fewer visitors come this far north. The reward is wild country and quiet game viewing.
Comfortable Tented Rooms
The tented rooms are solid and comfortable. Each one has a private bathroom with a hot shower, netted beds and a veranda facing the bush. The tents are well spaced among the trees. Nights are full of the sounds of the wild.
Camp Life and Dining
The lounge, dining area and fire pit keep camp life relaxed and friendly. Meals are fresh and hearty, served three times a day. Packed lunches go with you on long drives. Evenings end around the fire, comparing notes on the day’s sightings.
The River Crossings
From about July to October, the Great Migration arrives here. Huge herds gather along the nearby Mara River. With some patience, you can watch the famous crossings. Thousands of wildebeest plunge through water full of crocodiles. It is one of nature’s greatest sights.
Wildlife Beyond the Migration
Outside crossing season, the north still has plenty of game. Elephants, giraffes, lions and leopards live here year-round. The kopjes shelter big cats and rock hyrax. Guests fly in to Kogatende airstrip from Arusha. Mara Mara is an honest, well-placed base for the migration’s greatest drama.
Best Time to Visit
Book Mara Mara between July and October for the river-crossing season. August and September are usually peak crossing months. Stay at least three nights, because crossings follow no schedule. Outside those months, the north offers quiet, crowd-free game viewing. The lodge suits patient wildlife lovers, photographers and repeat visitors who want the Serengeti’s wildest corner mostly to themselves. Pair it with a central Serengeti camp to see both faces of the park in one trip.
