Northern Serengeti (Mara region)
Mara Kati Kati is a seasonal camp in the northern Serengeti’s Mara region. It operates during the months when the Great Migration rules this landscape. That is from about July to November. The camp puts you close to the river at the right time.
The Famous River Crossings
From camp, game drives head for the Mara River. This is where the migration’s most famous moment happens. Massed wildebeest charge down steep banks into the water. Crocodiles patrol below. These scenes have made the Serengeti famous around the world.
Trusted Canvas Comfort
The camp delivers the trusted Kati Kati formula. The tents are roomy, with solid beds and private bathrooms. There are flush toilets and hot safari showers. Everything is clean, simple and well run. You sleep in real wilderness, in real comfort.
Meals and Evenings
The dining tent serves fresh, hot meals three times a day. Packed lunches travel with you to the river. In the evening, the campfire crackles as hyenas call in the dark. Stories of the day’s crossings flow freely.
Beyond the Crossings
The northern hills shelter excellent resident game all year. Lions, leopards, elephants and giraffes live here in good numbers. Far fewer visitors come north than to Seronera. Guests fly to Kogatende airstrip from Arusha. For an affordable front-row seat to the crossings, Mara Kati Kati is hard to beat.
Best Time to Visit
Mara Kati Kati operates from about July to November, the crossing season. August and September usually bring the heaviest river traffic. Stay three nights or more, because crossings cannot be scheduled. Mornings start early, so rest well. The camp suits patient wildlife watchers, photographers and budget-smart travelers who want the crossings without the luxury-camp price tag. Combine it with a central Serengeti camp to follow the herds across the whole park.
